Sam Schwartz is percussionist and film composer whose music emphasizes an orchestral, symphonic sound. Central to his music are melodies, themes, and motifs, as Schwartz believes the audience can emotionally connect with the film on a much deeper level with these devices present.
As a student at New England Conservatory of Music, he is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts undergraduate degree and is currently studying with acclaimed composer and chair of the composition department, Michael Gandolfi. Schwartz’s orchestral works, “The Life Cycle,” and “Taking Flight,” were chosen to be performed by the NEC Philharmonic Orchestra in 2023 and 2024. Schwartz is the composer of the films “Bessie’s Movie Date,” and “Lola,” and routinely works with Emerson film students to score their films.
As an accomplished percussionist, Schwartz has had a career that spans nearly 15 years. Schwartz is a 6-time Florida All-State winner and 2022 section leader and a 15-time Solo and Ensemble Superior award medalist. He was chosen to perform at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention as a 12-year-old, and has played with the New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami, FL. In 2022, his wind-ensemble at Dreyfoos School of the Arts was chosen to perform at the prestigious Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic.
